Researchers used the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking to discern whether or not TM fosters creativity. Effectively, the tests measure figural and verbal creativity. They carried out the measurements in both a control group and in a group that subsequently learned the Transcendental Meditation technique.

On the post-test 5 months later, the TM group scored significantly higher on figural originality and flexibility and on verbal fluency.
