Great news this Christmas. The United Nations has made it official – 21st December is World Meditation Day. The idea is for the UN to celebrate this meditation day globally for the next 100 years. This year’s theme is “Inner Peace, Global Harmony.”

Inner Peace – Outer Peace – World Peace

Of course, one day isn’t quite the same as every day. But as they say, every journey starts with the first step. Our regular readers will already know of the wealth of research on the TM technique. As such we can recognize that the theme of ‘Inner Peace and Global Harmony’ is less of a pipe dream and more a practical reality.

Research demonstrates the practical reality of meditation

There are now upwards of fifty-three research studies showing how groups of meditators practicing the TM-Sidhi program of meditation together in one place and at the same time have a miracle effect on the surrounding environment. Whenever and wherever, this happens, crime levels, accident rates and sickness rates reduce across society. If events have deteriorated to the level of open warfare, then a group of TM-Sidhas will stop the fighting almost immediately. This amazing effect is known either as the Maharishi Effect (after His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi the founder of the global TM movement.) or the Super Radiance effect.

In recognition of this powerful research on the Maharishi effect, the UN invited Tony Nader, MD PhD, to be the keynote speaker at the UN’s official celebratory event. As 21st December is World Meditation Day, the inauguration took place the day before in New York City on Friday 20 December 2024. Dr Nader is globally recognized as a Vedic scholar and popular author, but he is also successor to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as world head of the Transcendental Meditation® organizations.

World Meditation Day invitation

Global invitation

The UN invites meditators across the world to synchronize their meditation together every 21st December. Creating a cycle of meditation beginning at 8:00 am wherever local time is. So, as the globe turns, hour by hour, time zone by time zone, millions of meditators will start their morning meditation at 8:00 am. Another synchronized cycle will start for an evening round at 5:00 pm.

Dr. Nader says, “At the very beginning of its preamble, the Constitution of UNESCO famously states: ‘Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be established.’ Now, the 193 nations of the UN have resolved to use the power of meditation to do this. I invite every meditator in the world to take a first step in establishing world peace. Meditate at 8:00 am in your local time and again at 5:00 pm on World Meditation Day.”

Dr Nader goes on to emphasize that “Our goal is to have large, permanent groups of experts in the TM and TM-Sidhi program, including Yogic Flying, in many locations—in schools, colleges, and universities; in workplaces; in the military—wherever people routinely come together. This will produce enough coherence in our collective world consciousness that violence of all kinds will subside. Then, collective meditation will not be for just one day but will be happening 365 days every year, and our world will at last be at peace.”

Please remember that next year 21st December is World Meditation Day.
